Pretty Little Liars season 6 release date: Who died in the season 5 mid-season finale?

The mid-season finale of 'Pretty Little Liars' season 5 tonight will be shocking and heartbreaking. Someone will die in tonight's episode, and no one is safe from "A."

The official synopsis of "Pretty Little Liars season 5" episode 12, titled "Taking This One to the Grave," is as follows: "With Alison leading them down a dangerous path and 'A' barring them from telling the police the truth, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer feel trapped and are desperate to find a way out of this mess. With nothing else to lose, could the PLLs lose everything by putting their faith in a possibly untrustworthy ally? Meanwhile, Alison begins to build up her own army now that the PLLs have turned their back on her."

Creator Marlene King told Entertainment Weekly that fans should be expecting a death in the mid-season finale. "Whenever a beloved character or a character that fans appreciate dies, it shakes our world, and the fallout of this death is really what the show is about for the next 13 episodes, including Christmas," King said.

Actress Lucy Hale dished to WetPaint about the mid-season finale. "This, for me, is one of the most shocking and one of the most heartbreaking episodes of Pretty Little Liars we've ever done. What happens is very heartbreaking, and I, personally, did not see it coming from a million miles away."

After tonight's episode, part two of "Pretty Little Liars" season 5 will be returning in December for a special Christmas-themed episode.

The Christmas episode will be titled "How the 'A' Stole Christmas."

The popular TV show has also been renewed for season 6 and 7, with season 6 predicted to premiere some time in 2015.
