'Prison Break' season 5 air date, spoilers: Dominic Purcell 'humbled' after reboot
The upcoming "Prison Break" reboot by FOX is 20 times more anticipated than any other new TV show, an analytics firm has revealed.
According to ListenFirst Media, the serial action/drama which aired from 2005 to 2009, is the most talked about upcoming TV show on social media, clocking up a total of 19.5 million social media engagements between May and August this year. This number is a staggering 20 times more than any other television show. The second most buzzed about show, NBC's upcoming drama "This Is Us," received just 1.56 million. The third show in the list, the CBS reboot of "MacGyver," got 558,073.
"The numbers show that Prison Break's return to air is met with fervor from fans who have been missing the show for years," ListenFirst Media's co-CEO and co-founder Jason Klein said.
Indeed, it has been seven years since fans last saw Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and the rest of the crew. Apart from the fact that most of the original main cast of "Prison Break" are coming back for the FOX reboot, the nine-episode limited event will reveal that Scofield, who had presumably died in the season 4 finale, is alive.
Meanwhile, Purcell expressed his gratitude for the support that the "Prison Break" reboot has received even though it is still months away from its premiere episode.
In a recent Instagram post, the actor shared a screenshot of the article from The Independent announcing that "Prison Break" is the most highly anticipated new show on television.
"Never in doubt," Purcell captioned the snap. "I'm humbled as I'm sure the cast are; to be a part of this incredible tv drama and #international #phenomenon. A big debt and gratitude to @pscheuring writer creator and @foxtv @20thcenturyfox. Cheers. Kinda trips me out. But super stoked. S5 @prisonbreak. Will Blow up," it read.
Earlier this year, Purcell was seriously injured in Morocco while on the set of the "Prision Break" revival. The actor broke his nose and suffered a head injury after an iron bar fell on his head during filming.
The "Prison Break" reboot premieres Sunday, Jan. 1 2017, on Fox.
