'Prison Break' season 5 spoilers news: Michael is a terrorist; revival show to feature only nine episodes
The upcoming "Prison Break" limited revival event will find Michael (Wentworth Miller) being accused of having ties with ISIS.
According to Entertainment Weekly's latest Spoiler Room post, "Prison Break" season 5 will show Michael being branded as a terrorist and thrown in a Moroccan jail, where he languishes for four years before Lincoln (Dominic Purcell), Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies), and the rest of the gang attempt to bust him out.
As EW reported, Michael will be associated with ISIS but the group won't be the revival series' only big bad. According to the spoiler, in keeping with the reboot's "Odyssey" theme, Michael will also be dealing with a Cyclops and a Poseidon.
In an interview with EW, "Prison Break" creator Paul Scheuring revealed that the revival is inspired by the classic Homer poem.
"It's ultimately a story about somebody coming back to life," he said. "The emotional heart of it is that he left behind a wife and a son he's never seen before. [I thought] 'Hey, wait, isn't that The Odyssey?'"
He also revealed that, as in the "Odyssey," the hero (Michael) will be using the alias Outis. The prison in "Prison Break" season 5 will be called Ogygia after the island on which Odysseus was detained in the "Odyssey."
Scheuring also explained that the nine-episode season 5 will most likely be the show's final run. According to the "Prison Break" boss, the show's seven-year break allowed Miller to fully appreciate his turn as Michael on the popular drama, which had the actor hankering for more episodes.
"He said he wanted to inhabit it for a few more episodes," Scheuring said. "I said, 'Look, nobody wants to revive this thing for multiple seasons and that whole long slog, but if we can tell a concise, closed-ended story in nine or ten episodes, I'd be amenable to that.'"
"Prison Break" will debut on Fox in early 2017 as part of the network's midseason schedule. It will air Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
