'Psychological Deep Sea Thriller' Game 'Iron Fish' Announced for Release by Yearend
"Iron Fish," a new undersea thriller game, will be released for the Mac, PC and Linux hopefully at the end of the year. The game was announced recently by indie developer Dean Edwards on a Steam Greenlight page where it was a billed as "psychological deep sea thriller."
As with other deep sea exploration games and movies, "Iron Fish" is expected to have considerable "horror" elements in it. The Steam page describes how players will step into the shoes of the main character Cerys. She is part of a highly trained naval group in the British Navy. She will use highly sophisticated gear at her disposal to explore an area of the sea lying seven miles below the surface.
This territory is described as dangerous and filled with mysteries that have never been glimpsed by a human being. As Cerys embarks on underwater missions, she will encounter a number of strange creatures. These creatures and the dangerous environment where anything can go wrong will cause Cerys to question her beliefs in science and mythology and even help resolve personal issues that have remained unanswered in her life.
As for the locations Cerys will explore in the game, they include dark areas of the abyss filled with indescribable monsters and some coral reefs home to fish and other creatures. To survive the immense pressure underwater and strange creatures out to kill her, Cerys will have to rely on her equipment which will consist of sonar, flares and a number of other tools. However, she will not be armed with a gun.
"Iron Fish" is currently being worked on by Edwards. He is being assisted by a team consisting of Lottie Bevan, who is the producer. Working alongside them is Game Director Shaun Leach, lead programmer Peter Gartside and artwork consultant Jack Oakman.
The game is being developed using Unreal Engine 4. A confirmed release date could be announced in the days ahead.
