Many years after the release of Rockstar Games' "Red Dead Redemption," there have been speculations whether the game studio would come up with a follow-up game title. For the past several months, there has been a long-standing rumor that the third "Red Dead" installment, prematurely titled as the "Red Dead Redemption 2," will be released very soon. While there is no confirmation yet from Rockstar regarding the next "Red Dead" title, the rumors are rife that it will be released next year, in time for the arrival of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One's updated versions.

According to iTech Post, there is a possibility that Rockstar Games has been keeping mum amid the "Red Dead Redemption 2" rumors on purpose as it is secretly working to release the sequel in February 2017. Moreover, it is rumored that Rockstar may have decided to postpone the development of "Red Dead Redemption 2" later in the year as they plan to have the launching of the game to coincide with the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox Scorpio's arrival. The latest home console versions are not expected to be out in the markets until the first part of 2017.

Meanwhile, according to The Bitbag, there is no final word yet regarding the official title of the third "Red Dead" title. The second installment of the "Red Dead" series, "Red Dead Redemption," has been well-received by the game critics and players. Thus, there is a possibility that the said game title will have its own direct sequel. It is likely that the next sequel will be linked to "Red Dead Redemption." The first entry in the franchise, the "Red Dead Revolver," has nothing to do with the sequel, so it remains to be seen if the third installment will be a direct follow-up for "Red Dead Redemption" or have its own plotline. Regardless, whether the third title will be "Red Dead Redemption 2" or not, it will follow the Western cowboy theme of the first two installments.

Aside from "Red Dead Redemption 2," there are other reports suggesting that the game sequel will be titled as "Legends of the West." Rockstar has no official word regarding a sequel so it would be wise to take the rumors with a grain of salt.

"Red Dead Redemption" was first released on the older Xbox 360 console, but thanks to Xbox's Backward Compatibility service, the game can also be played in Xbox One.
