"Regular Show" creator J.G. Quintel is preparing to say goodbye to the Cartoon Network animated series after eight seasons.

Quintel, who executive produces the Emmy-winning show, also voices Mordecai, one of its two main characters. "Regular Show" follows two groundskeepers, Mordecai, a blue jay, and his friend Rigby, a raccoon, as they spend their days attempting to ditch work and going on various misadventures. The other characters in the animated series include Benson, the duo's boss, and Skips, their coworker.

"Regular Show" has been one of Cartoon Network's biggest programs, becoming an instant hit at its release and representing the network at events such as the San Diego Comic Con and the New York Comic Con. The series has received critical acclaim and earned numerous nominations at the Emmys, the BAFTAs, and the Annie Awards.

Earlier this month, Cartoon Network announced that the show is coming to an end, with its eighth season being its last.

In a statement about the end of "Regular Show," Cartoon Network chief content officer Rob Sorcher said, "'Regular Show' has been one of the most original animated series of this generation, creating indelible characters and signature comedy mayhem laced with heart." Sorcher also said that he is proud that the talented cast and crew of the show all agreed to go to space for "one hilarious final journey."

Mordecai, Rigby, and their friends were launched into space at the end of season 7.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Quintel addressed the show's current storyline, admitting that he had been skeptical about the characters' new setting.

"It will be hard as other shows might have gone done a different plan and just reboot it in space, but this is the same show," he said, adding, "It's all part of the canon of what we've been doing for the past few years."

"I think we pulled it off and it's going to be very deep as people watch it as it goes on. ...It won't be a typical space... thing," Quintel also said.

"Regular Show" season 8 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on Cartoon Network. The series will conclude in January 2017.
