'Reign' season 4 canceled news updates: series canceled by The CW
The end is in sight for "Reign," after The CW canceled the historical fantasy drama after season 4.
Deadline revealed that the network executives made the decision about the show's fate while the production of season 4 is currently underway. But the report claimed that the decision was premeditated, since the network was already in talks with the producers about the possibility of ending the series after its fourth season.
In an interview with Yahoo! TV, series co-creator Laurie McCarthy admitted that they are really anticipating end of the series soon.
"It's something we've been talking about for a long time, even from beginning of the plotting of this season," McCarthy stated. "We were aware that it might be our final season." She hopes fans will "find the end really moving and really satisfying."
While the plot of "Reign" season 4 remains a secret, it can be expected to see the culmination of Mary, Queen of Scots' (Adelaide Kane) story as she continue her fight to stay in the throne despite all the threats to bring her down.
If the series will be faithful to the historical accounts of the real Mary, fans could expect to see the demise of the Scottish queen under the order of her mortal enemy, Queen Elizabeth I of England (Rachel Skarsten) in the upcoming season.
Fans could also expect to see Mary enter into a new romantic relationship in season 4 after the death of her husband King Francis II of France (Toby Regbo). She will reportedly marry Lord Darnley (Will Kemp), but their marriage will end up in disaster, since Mary's new husband is reportedly power hungry.
Kane also opened up about her feelings regarding the cancellation of the series on her Instagram account. According to the show's lead actress, she was definitely saddened by the cancellation of "Reign." Yet she also said that she is excited to move forward after the end of the series.
"Reign" will end with a 16-episode final season that will premiere on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017.
