'Resident Evil 7: Biohazard' release date, latest news: No Nintendo Switch port for 'Biohazard,' says game producer
"Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" won't be arriving on the upcoming Nintendo Switch console anytime soon.
In an interview conducted by Express with game producer Masachika Kawata and director Koshi Nakanishi, the possibility of a Nintendo Switch port being developed for the highly-anticipated video game was brought up. However, based on their response, the future doesn't look so promising.
"I think it's a very unique piece of hardware," Kawata explained. "I'm looking forward to the possibilities of the system itself, but we have no plans at the moment regarding Resident Evil on Switch," he added.
According to Game Rant, Capcom's decision to desist from developing a Nintendo Switch port is not surprising. Considering the disappointing sales of Wii U, Capcom may be waiting for the sales performance of Nintendo Switch before porting some of its premium games to the device.
However, given the long-time business partnership forged with Nintendo, Capcom is still supporting the release of the upcoming Switch console with at least one game — "Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers." Should the console secure a large fanbase, "Resident Evil 7" and other games may also be adapted into its port later on in the future.
"Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" is a follow-up to "Resident Evil 6," a game released back in 2012 to disappointing reviews. Hence, the upcoming game is deemed to fulfill Capcom's promise to revamp the legendary game franchise.
The upcoming action horror video game has already made sweeping changes to the franchise's familiar formula, with "Resident Evil 7" introducing a first-person perspective in the game's format. Considering the drastic change, it remains to be seen how receptive fans will be once the game is released. Hence, much like the upcoming Nintendo Switch, "Biohazard" also needs to prove itself as a "Resident Evil" video game.
"Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Jan. 24. It was also recently confirmed that the game will be an Xbox Play Anywhere game for Xbox One and PC.
