'Resident Evil 7' release date, news: 'Midnight' demo update finally lets players solve dummy finger mystery

Capcom has released second and final update to the "Beginning Hour" demo for "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard." The game developer also released a brand-new trailer for the upcoming survival horror video game.

The "Midnight" update is already available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation VR. Meanwhile, the Xbox One demo will be released on Dec. 9 to be followed by the PC demo on Dec. 19.

The "Beginning Hour" demo was released back in July. Since then, players have been trying to solve the mysteries of a run-down mansion in Louisiana while at the same time trying to escape it. The "Midnight" update follows the "Twilight" update that was released back in September.

According to Capcom, "You'll see how everything comes together. For the first time, explore what lies beyond the mold-covered door, where terrifying noises emanate from." The new update to the demo introduces new areas to explore and additional items to use.

As players are now able to unlock the mysterious door, they will finally be able to solve the dummy finger mystery that has haunted players for months now.

In an interview with Eurogamer, game director Kōshi Nakanishi revealed that they were surprised with the reaction to the dummy finger. While they panicked a bit due to the response, they continued to update the demo to provide a thrilling experience for the players.

"We're hoping everything ties together and it does leave a satisfying experience at the very end," he said.

For those needing help, Reddit user BruhTheShark has already released a 34-step guide in unlocking this particular puzzle. After finishing the demo, players are awarded a dirty coin; however, there's no information yet on what the coin's purpose is.

Meanwhile, Capcom also recently released the TAPE-3 trailer for "Resident Evil 7." It provides players a sneak peek of what can be expected when the game is released.

"Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" will arrive on Jan. 24, 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows PC.
