'Resident Evil 7'' release date, rumors: Classic characters to return to the game?
No games have cemented themselves in the horror genre like "Resident Evil" has, and fans are excited for the release of the next game in the franchise, "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard." A new teaser was released for the game called "Mysterious Caller" and fans are speculating on the identity of the voice in the trailer.
The clip has the player in a dark room when the phone suddenly rings. When the phone is answered, the players can hear a voice that says, "You really shouldn't have come here." The official "Resident Evil" Twitter page posted the clip with the caption "That voice... who could it be? #RE7," and fans have already been trying to guess who it is.
Some fans in the comments section suggest that the voice could belong to Jill Valentine. Valentine is actually one of the more popular protagonists in the game, even making a crossover back in "Marvel vs. Capcom 2."
Gamespot guesses that the mystery caller could be long-time "Resident Evil" character Ada Wong. Ada has appeared in several "Resident Evil" titles, and she was revealed to be a double agent who worked for the Umbrella Corps. as well as other independent agencies.
Another guess could be that the voice belongs to "Resident Evil 5's" Sheva Alomar. In the game, she was Chris Redfield's partner, as well as a BSAA member. She helped go against the TriCell group and Albert Wesker when they planned to release the Uroboros virus.
Other trailers have been released online as well, and this game looks to be one of the first "RE" games that will introduce first-person shooting to the franchise. The games have evolved a great deal since the '90s, from being a platformer game to a zombie shooter.
"Resident Evil 7" releases for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC on Jan. 24, 2017.
