Fans of the animated science fiction comedy "Rick and Morty" now have a reason to celebrate as the air date of season 3 has finally been announced.

According to reports, "Rick and Morty" season 3 will start airing new episodes before the year ends. This was confirmed by the show's writers, Erica Rosbe and Sarah Carbenier, who revealed the news via the "Chicks Who Script" podcast.

They said that Adult Swim will keep its promise, which will start airing new episodes in 2016. Their announcement also came with a hint, reminding everyone that the first season premiered on Dec. 2.

As of now, there is no specific date yet but at least fans are assured that there is something to look forward to in the coming weeks. And just like the release date, details on what will happen in season 3 have been kept under wraps.

But as usual, the internet swarmed with several spoilers and updates. Fans may recall that the season 2 finale capped off with Rick arrested in the Galactic Federation prison. It's unknown if he will ever escape but it's predicted that Morty will get his grandfather out there. Will Morty be successful?

Spoilers also detailed that the third season will be very different from its predecessors. For starters, season 3 will have more episodes. It's said to air 14 episodes. Season 2 had only 10. New characters are also expected to appear.

Reports said that Rick's ex-wife, Mrs. Sanchez, will be introduced. She is said to bring emotional and mental problems to the gang. An Evil Morty is also said to debut. Fans have also speculated that Krombopulis Michael will make a comeback despite being last seen crushed under Rick's spaceship. Spoilers suggested that Michael is a prison guard where Rick is being detained.

Creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon have been very careful not to divulge details for "Rick and Morty" season 3 so fans will have to stay tuned for more updates.
