'Rick and Morty' season 3 release date news: Early launch before end of 2016; show could be going to Hawaii

Production is still in progress on the next season of the adult, animated sci-fi "Rick and Morty," which had been granted its third season only three shows into the previous season. It had been a surprise announcement by Adult Swim, and now fans cannot wait for the next installment to come out after a cliffhanger seriously got in the way of their satisfaction.

Mr. Poopy Butthole teased the return of the next season during season two's closing credits to be sometime in 2017, March presumably, since the Smith's good friend indicated a year and a half as enough time for it to be ready. However, Dan Harmon, who is the show's co-creator, begged to disagree at the Magic City Comic Con that the target is really at the end of this year.

The sooner the better for the viewers to keep their sanity; fans would likely feel relieved that their regular dose of laughter which has been long overdue will come earlier than expected.

With this news in mind, fans are wondering what they can expect in the next helping of "Rick and Morty." Harmon has promised there will be a quick resolution of the cliffhanger from the season two finale.

In an interview with Den of Greek, the co-creator shared, "I don't think anybody wants to do a third season that simply spends a whole bunch of episodes dealing with a situation that we created at the end of the second season. So I think that's a non-spoiler way of saying things should be okay pretty quickly."

As to what that really entails is something better clarified during the season 3 premiere, which does not really have a definite date yet. But halfway into the year, it will not be a very long wait.

Harmon commented that, with the success of the show evidenced by the third season order, it may be time to draw the characters as going to Hawaii, with the network's consent of course. Whether this is something that will be explored in the upcoming season is another thing for the show's audience to get excited about.

There has also been mention of a secret that the two scheming co-creators Justin Roiland and Harmon have thought of in the series but plan to keep from the rest of the Rick-and-Morty-loving world.

Admitting that there had been plans for the secret, Harmon revealed, "We haven't talked about this in a while, but before we wrote the first episode of Rick and Morty, we had a conversation where, I think it was Mike McMahan who said, 'Should we decide that there is a secret we keep from the audience forever?' But we always know it. I won't say what."

A Reddit user who is also a fan of the "Rick and Morty" show had apparently thought of the same thing, but was probably put down as just another speculation by yet another crazy fan.

In the meantime, fans are finding ways to get their dose of fun by making a hilarious machinima of Rick and Morty in a popular video game. The YouTuber UpIsNotJump has recreated some of the best scenes from the first season of the animated series using Fallout 4.

Premiering late in 2016, "Rick and Morty" season 3 will have a longer run than the previous two seasons with 14 episodes slated.
