'Rick and Morty' season 3 premiere date, latest news: Dan Harmon provides reason for third season's premiere delay
"Rick and Morty" co-creator Dan Harmon has recently provided a lengthy and detailed explanation for why the third season of the hit adult cartoon show has yet to premiere.
Before he provided a long statement through his Twitter account, Harmon had spoken to Indiewire at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday. In that interview, the series co-creator took responsibility for the delay in the release of "Rick and Morty" season 3, which was supposed to have returned in 2016.
"If Justin [Roiland, Rick and Morty co-creator] were here he'd agree," Harmon said. "He and I would go, 'Yeah, we fucked up,' and it's hard to put your finger on how we f**ked up. Rick and Morty keeps taking longer and longer to write, and I don't know why," he went on to say.
"We have fights all the time and then we have fights about why we're having fights," Harmon elaborated further, adding, "Well, we didn't fight during Season 2, that's why it's taking longer! All this fighting! So OK, let's stop fighting!"
Harmon's statements to Indiewire had led to reports that there was in-house fighting between the creators because of creative differences, which was why the third season of "Rick and Morty" kept on getting delayed.
However, Harmon recently took to Twitter to clarify his comments. He clarified that there was no behind-the-scenes drama going on between him and series co-creator Justin Roiland, and the delay in the release of "Rick and Morty" season 3 was nothing more than due to slow writing.
He added that he did not want to provide any specifics on the upcoming episodes of the third season of the show because he feared the writers and artists would be harassed and because the scheduling of the episodes is ultimately decided upon by Adult Swim executives.
"We respect and terrify each other and always want the other to be happy," Harmon wrote.
"Rick and Morty" season 3 is rumored to arrive with 14 half-hour episodes, although Adult Swim has yet to confirm or deny the number of episodes or even reveal the season's premiere date.
