'Rick and Morty' season 3 release date news update: Adult Swim launches animatic sneak peek for upcoming season

Adult Swim recently released an animatic sneak peek for "Rick and Morty" season 3.

The two-minute exclusive animatic sneak peek for the third season of "Rick and Morty" was released by Adult Swim on its website on Dec. 15. The teaser was launched during the live stream of the show's development meeting with guest, Cartoon Network's "Clarence" writer Spencer Rothbell.

As reported by iTech Post, the teaser video opens with Morty on the foreground as he eavesdrops on Jessica and her friends' conversation about dating. Discovering that Jessica is single, Morty attempts to join in the conversation. However, just as he was about to speak, old Rick arrives out of nowhere and steals him away.

Rick tells Morty that they have to go on another adventure and that he needs his help in going to another planet. Later, the duo is seen to be on a ship as they run for their lives, with a legion of monstrous enemies chasing after them.

In end, Morty ends up crying loudly about what happened and complains that he can't do it any longer. Rick agrees to this, believing that they only managed to survive out of pure luck. The two are later shown to be rewarded for their supposed heroic act before a cheering crowd.

With the teaser clip building up the excitement for the upcoming season of "Rick and Morty," many are wondering about the exact air date of season 3. Initially set for a release date before the end of 2016, creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland has yet to fulfill that commitment. A couple of weeks left before the year ends, it seems unlikely that season 3 will see the light of day this year, if at all.

However, fans need not fret about the rumored cancellation of the cartoon series. As previously reported, season 3 will happen and will air a total of 19 episodes. The episodes will also have a longer run time than those of the earlier seasons.

The third season of "Rick and Morty" is expected to air sometime in 2017 on Adult Swim.
