The official release date of "Rick and Morty" season 3 has been a source of confusion for most fans. There are reports saying the third season would drop in early 2017 while others speculate an August premiere for the series. Once and for all, the creator of the Adult Swim animated series has given his take on this.

During the recent San Diego Comic-Con, Dan Harmon answered questions regarding the seeming delay of the third installment. Fans are wondering why season 3 is taking more time than the first and second seasons of "Rick and Morty," and Harmon had a plausible explanation.

"It's been harder this season," Parent Herald quoted Harmon as saying. "I watched the thumbnail animatic of Episode 304 and I was ready to move forward with it and Ryan [Ridley] said 'we're not satisfied with it and we were already behind schedule."

Apparently, the animators and the entire team behind "Rick and Morty" season 3 want to make the show even better than the two previous seasons; thus, the delay.

Cinema Blend reported that Harmon assured the new season would be more creative and mind-boggling, and because the whole team doesn't want to disappoint fans, each one is polishing the upcoming episodes to make them as perfect as possible for the viewers.

Harmon still wouldn't reveal the exact release date of the third season, but he did say fans should expect it before the year ends. Perhaps the production team is aiming for a release anytime during the last quarter of the year, probably by November or December.

Meanwhile, co-creator Justin Roiland has told Slashfilm through an interview that production is still undecided whether to give the inter-dimensional cable storyline a go or not. According to Roiland, it would be "tough ... to accomplish."

"Rick and Morty" season 3 is expected to drop in before 2016 ends, but for now, keep coming back for news on its official airdate, as well as for more details.
