'Rick and Morty' season 3 release date, plot spoilers: Premiere date remains undisclosed; focus on Rick's family in upcoming installment?
"Rick and Morty" season 3 will happen, but as to when exactly it will premiere is something creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, as well as Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, is keeping mum about. To this end, fans have been busy cooking up theories concerning the upcoming season's plot.
Reports say it might be another six months (hopefully less) before "Rick and Morty" comes back on air for its third season. Co-creators Roiland and Harmon have previously said that the writers of the animated series are being meticulous with their work to ensure the quality of the show, which is why season 3's production is a tad more challenging than the first two.
Even one of the writers said over Twitter that season 3 will be worth the wait, as only the best things are. Moreover, season 3 has a longer episode order, so there will be more of "Rick and Morty" for fans to enjoy this season.
Not too long ago, Harmon, Roiland, Spencer Grammer, and Ryan Ridley did an improvised skit to tease fans of what they could expect or the upcoming season. The four-minute clip was called "Summer's Future," which showed Morty's sister, Summer, asking Rick for advice about her university choices.
There are speculations that the skit will be part o season 3's arc, although there were earlier teasers claiming that "Rick and Morty" season 3 will see more of Rick's family. Apparently, not only will Summer help Morty bust Rick out of the Galactic Federal Prison but their mother, Beth, will also have a standalone arc in season 3.
According to reports, season 3 might see Morty's parents, Beth and Jerry, finally ending their marriage via divorce. Those who have followed the series know that theirs is the rocky sort of relationship, and it seems come third season, they won't be able to sort things out as they normally do.
Geek.com reports that on the commentary section included in the season 2 DVD of "Rick and Morty," Harmon talked about making Beth and Jerry's indecisiveness about divorce a long-running joke on the series. However, the arc is losing steam, so they might push forward with Beth's story in the upcoming season. Harmon didn't clarify, though, whether fans will see Beth post-divorce or still married to Jerry.
"Rick and Morty" season 3 is expected to drop in sometime in 2017. IN the meantime, keep coming back for more news and updates about the show's third season premiere.
