'Rick and Morty' season 3 spoilers, updates: Creators remain mum about release date at San Diego Comic-Con, teases of 'epic' season 3 instead

"Rick and Morty" creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland were very visible during the San Diego Comic-Con. They did press rounds on Friday to share tidbits of details about the upcoming season. However, they still kept mum about the official release date of series.

When "Rick and Morty" season 2 ended, fans saw Rick detained in a maximum security prison while Morty was shipped back to earth along with his family. However, the Earth they returned to felt different to them, as it is now part of the Galactic Federation. For an animated series, that cliffhanger of a season finale was emotional.

Speaking to the press at the SDCC, Harmon managed to answer questions while evading potential spoilers for season 3. He did admit that working on season 3's premiere episode was creatively challenging, even saying that the premiere has "been changed a thousand times."

"Episode 301 is the least compatible with the new viewer because we have so many loose ends to tie up," Collider quoted Harmon as saying.

Without giving away anything juicy, Harmon said season 3 will be "the most epic so far," given that Rick and Morty won't be limited to their back stories and would be embroiled in various twists and turns instead.

Meanwhile, when asked if they have dream guests for the series, Roiland, who lends his voice to both Rick and Morty, said Gary Coleman and David Bowie would have been perfect for the upcoming season. Harmon, on the other hand, said he would love to have Vin Diesel as a voice over guest for the upcoming installment.

"I kind of want to meet Vin Diesel, and I kind of want to have a conversation with him," The Bitbag quoted Harmon as saying. "He's a big D&D fan, and I think he'd be great for the show."

While the possibility of having the "Fast and Furious 8" actor as a voice over guest is likely, it might not happen soon, as the actor is busy with his various projects. Recording for "Rick and Morty" season 3 would definitely be out of the question.

An August 2016 release date is purportedly being targeted for "Rick and Morty" season 3, but until Harmon and Roiland reveal the official date, it should be considered mere speculation.
