'Rick and Morty' season 3 spoilers, updates: Series writer hints major details, teases best season to date?
Fans sure are getting antsy waiting for the official airdate of "Rick and Morty" season 3, but according to series writer Mike McMahan, fans will soon realize that the upcoming installment is worth the wait.
Den of Geek reports that during the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), creator Dan Harmon said season 3 is so much harder to make because the animators want to produce high-quality episodes. He even revealed that the writers and animators almost scrapped an entire episode as they were dissatisfied with the result.
"They are the ones that wanted to do it," he said, pertaining to the animators.
Not a single soul from the production team of the Adultswim series is giving away major details about the actual release date, but McMahan took to Twitter to hint something about the upcoming installment. Check out his tweet below.
A few weeks ago, co-creators Harmon and Justin Roiland teased a four-minute improvised mini-episode that gave a glimpse of some of the things season 3 will tackle. There are also various teasers leaked through various social platforms that only serve to pique fans' interest in "Rick and Morty" season 3.
So far, what the creators revealed about the upcoming season is that it will have 14 episodes, which is four more than the 10 episodes ordered for seasons 1 and 2. Thus, fans can expect a lot of serial storytelling in season 3. It's also highly likely that Rick will escape the Galactic Federation Prison or someone will bust him out of it, as apparently, the start of the third season will feature a breakout fight scene.
There is also a possibility that the "Interdimensional Cable" plot may be dropped this season, as the writers are not interested in creating on for season 3. Roiland said this much at the SDCC last month. Actually, fans didn't really take to these episodes of semi-improvised skits since they lack sci-fi and high-concept plotting. Hence, if the speculations are true, then it could work in favor of the fans.
At any rate, "Rick and Morty" season 3 should be expected if not late 2016, then early 2017.
