'Riverdale' season 1 premiere date, update, news: Raul Castillo joins cast; Jughead to be asexual?
Readers of "Archie" comics are beyond ecstatic to find out that The CW network has adapted the publication into a TV series titled "Riverdale."
According to reports, the series will start airing on MTV in 2017. It's also not going to come until the midseason so fans will have to wait for some time before they can see the fictional characters come to life.
The cast of the new show has also already been announced but the latest member to be added is "Looking" star Raul Castillo. As detailed in The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will be playing a recurring role.
Castillo will portray a character named Oscar who is described to be a recognized songwriter. He comes from New York and will be making some buzz in the fictional town of Riverdale.
He will also be crossing paths with Archie, played by K.J. Apa, as he will agree to let the latter audition for him. Archie is an aspiring singer-songwriter so if he has what it takes to be a mentee of Oscar, Oscar may just agree to teach him the secrets to become successful in his career.
It's also noted that Oscar will make his first appearance in episode 5. Castillo and Apa will be joined by co-stars Lili Reinhart who will play Betty, Camilla Mendes as Veronica, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones and Ashleigh Murray as Josie.
The series will be set in the present day and will be a rebellious and weird version of the comics. This means that fans can expect a lot of secrets and darkness going around the small town.
In other news, fans are wondering if the Jughead in the series will be the same one in the comics wherein it was recently revealed that he is asexual.
"Archie" CEO Jon Goldwater hinted during the New York Comic Con that Jughead in "Riverdale" is going to be introduced as the Jughead that people know. He didn't say anything further so fans will have to stay tuned to find out the answer.
