'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' release date, updates and news: New TV spot released for the movie
"Rogue One" is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and marketing is already on full blast. New promotional material for the movie has been released and it includes a TV spot and new promotional banners featuring the Empire and the Rebellion.
The clip is 45 seconds long, and it features new footage from the movie. It has a squadron of TIE Fighters flying toward the Death Star and a new clip of Captain Cassian (Diego Luna) standing in front of the rebel troops. There's also what looks to be a new shot of the X-Wings flying through the smokey planet with lots of rock pillars.
The protagonist, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), is also seen giving a pep talk to her team of rebels, saying, "Rebellions are built on hope." This is a clear callback to the subtitle of the first "Star Wars" movie, "A New Hope."
The new banners that have been released have one made for the Empire and the Rebellion. The rebel banner has Jyn and her Rogue One squadron running on the shoreline of a beach. Aside from Jyn and Cassian, the squadron also includes Chirrut (Donnie Yen), Baze (Jiang Wen), K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) and Bodhi (Riz Ahmed).
The Imperial banner has a battalion of Stormtroopers marching toward the opposite side of the beach, and it also has the Death Star in the background. Much to the fans' dismay, there is no inclusion of Darth Vader or any Deathtroopers, nor an appearance from Director Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn).
Promos so far have the movie slated for release on Dec. 16, but the banners are all dated for the 15th of December. Fans will just have to wait for their local theaters to decide on a final release date.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" hits theaters on Dec. 16.
