Samsung EV Battery news, update: boasts 372 miles for 20-minute charge; starts mass production in 2021
Samsung has unveiled their new powerful battery at the International Auto Show in Detroit, showcasing how it can power-up electric vehicles. The battery can sustain up to 372 miles and charges approximately 310 miles in just a few minutes.
"This means that only 20min in the highway rest area will be enough for a battery to be charged, eliminating the range anxiety of EV drivers," the company stated.
While the Samsung EV battery has a lot to offer, the South Korean tech company announced that they will start producing them in 2021. This means the public can only feel the batteries after several years.
Samsung SDI also expressed their hopes that their innovation will contribute to the industry and earn the top spot as the leader in electric mobility.
Nevertheless, electric cars will have a grand time using the Samsung EV battery for a greater boost. According to PC Mag, electric vehicles with ranges over 300 miles are still unknown. Tesla launches their new battery pack last summer, boasting a 100kWh of power, able to deliver their own Model S P100D to run approximately 315 miles on one charge.
Aside from the EV battery, Samsung SDI also introduced the "integrated battery module" that can enhance over 24 cells with 6 to 8kWh of power. The company also stated that the battery module is lighter and has more security features.
"The high-energy density battery cell with the fast charging capability and the integrated battery module are the innovative technologies with full potentials that can transform the market," said a company executive.
"Expectations are high that we will be able to accelerate the vehicle electrification utilizing these technologies with improved driving range, manufacturing efficiency and user convenience."
Samsung's battery updates may compete with Faraday Future, who claims that they have created a battery that can power up electric vehicles for up to 378 miles.
