Although the second generation Moto X is smaller than the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, both devices feature great design and solid specs and provide great value for money as well.

Design

The Moto X can be customized in tons of ways on the Moto Maker website where materials for its back panel can be fashioned from leather, wood, plastic and bamboo. The Moto X also has a metal edge which gives it a premium look. As for the Galaxy Note 3, it has a plastic frame and faux leather on its back panel which is bordered with a stitch. The S Pen stylus on the Galaxy Note 3 gives it a big advantage as it allows for precise input on the screen.

Display

Comparing the displays on the devices, the Moto X has an AMOLED screen measuring 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 424 pixels per inch. As for the Galaxy Note 3, it has a 5.7-inch super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 386 pixels per inch.

Platform

Both devices run the Android operating system. While the older Note 3 has Jelly Bean, the Moto X runs KitKat. Both can be upgraded to the latest 5.0 Lollipop OS. As for specs, the Note 3 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, coupled with a quad-core Krait 400 CPU clocked at 2.3 GHz, and an Adreno 330 GPU. The Moto X has a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset, quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU.

Memory

A major difference between the two is that the Moto X does not have a memory slot, while the slot on the Note 3 can be used to add up to 64 GB of external memory. In terms of RAM, the Note 3 has 3 GB while the Moto X has 2 GB.

Price

The Galaxy Note 3 is priced at $149 with a two-year contract, while the Moto X (2014) costs $99 with a similar contract.
