Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Moto X Review: Specs, Price and Features Comparison - Samsung Phone Narrowly Beats Motorola Rival

The Galaxy S5 flagship smartphone from Samsung might not have been the big hit that the company was hoping for, but it still gives the Moto X a good fight in a head-to-head comparison, and actually manages to beat its rival narrowly.

Design

The Moto X provides a multitude of design options as it allows people to customize their phone on the Moto Maker website. As for its frame, it is metal and its front can be either white or black, while people can choose from wood, leather, plastic or bamboo for its back panel. Compared to this, the Galaxy S5, with its plastic build and dimpled plastic back panel, has a very simple design and very much like earlier Samsung devices.

Display

As for their displays, the Moto X has a 5.2-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 424 pixels per inch. The Galaxy S5, on the other hand, has a Super AMOLED screen measuring 5.1 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 432 pixels per inch.

Platform

Both devices run the Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system which can be upgraded to the latest 5.0 Lollipop. Coming to specs, both the Moto X and the Galaxy S5 have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801chipset, quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU.

Memory

A major difference between the devices is that the Galaxy S5 has a memory card slot which can be used to add external storage of up to 128 GB while the Moto X does not have one. In terms of RAM both devices have 2 GB versions.

Camera

The rear camera on the Galaxy S5 is a 16 megapixel version with phase detection autofocus, while the Moto X has a 13 megapixel version. In terms of their cameras in front, both have similar 2 megapixel versions.

Price

The Galaxy S5 can be purchased for $199 with a two-year contract, while the Moto X costs $99 with a similar contract.
