Samsung Galaxy S6 Release Date, Features Rumors: Revolutionary Phone to Ward Off Apple iPhone 6
Samsung is shooting back at Apple – and it promises to be a blast.
Following Apple's massive consumer grab with the release of its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus that left Samsung in the shadows, the Korean high-tech giant is set to unleash its latest Android creation, the Samsung Galaxy S6.
Industry insiders say the power-packed smartphone will more than match the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus duo in terms of capability and durability when it is released possibly during the Mobile World Congress, scheduled from March 2 to 5, 2015.
Some sources say Samsung may even advance the release of the Galaxy S6 depending on how well the market receives its big new brother, the Galaxy Note 4, when the latter is released later this month.
Sources say the Galaxy S6 will target the weak points of the new iPhones, foremost of which is their thin frame that, many attest, bends on their pants' pocket.
The Galaxy S6 is said to have a sturdier metal frame to complement its large screen and gorgeous look.
But the biggest of all Galaxy S6 rumors circulating on the Net is that it will be the first conventional 4K device with a stupendous screen resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 – what the industry regards as a 4K standard.
The handset is also rumored to come out with a fully-curved screen – another first in the smartphone history.
The Galaxy S6 is expected to be powered by the mighty Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 or the Snapdragon 810 and will run on Google's latest mobile operating system -- the Android 5 L.
Sources say the handset will be available in three variants 16GB, 32GB or 128 GB of internal memory. This can be expanded by a microSD card, which is a feature missing in all the iPhones.
Another astounding info is that the Galaxy S6 may come out with a 16-megapixel or even a 20-megapixel camera.
Sources say Samsung is feeling the brunt of the competition posed by Apple and promising Chinese companies like Xiaomi. The New York Times has reported that the Korean tech behemoth is expecting an operating profit of just about 4.1 trillion won ($3.8 billion) in the period from July to September–down by a huge 60 percent from its10.2 trillion earnings in the same period last year.
Samsung handset sales have also fallen by about 20 percent from the previous year, reports say. The final third quarter results will be released at the end of October.
The profits have taken a plunge following the launch of Apple's iPhone 6 models and new phones from Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi.
Sources say this is the reason why Samsung moved up the release of its Galaxy Note 4 to generate new interest in the market that will hopefully boost sales.
The Samsung phablet is now available in its home country, and is expected to be shipped to overseas stores later this month.
