Samsung Galaxy S8 release date, news, specs rumors: Next S-series handset to sport edge-to-edge display; to sport full OLED screen display?
It is now rumored that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphones will sport an edge-to-edge curved display, following the trend that they company itself set with a special Galaxy S6 variant in 2015. Both two variants of the Galaxy S8 will have the edge displays, meaning that the design of the handset will be curved on the sides to meet the enclosure of the device.
As reported by the Droid Life, a Korean investment publication called The Bell noted of the South Korean tech giant's move to make their upcoming flagship Android phones to appear bezel-less. The device is not necessarily going to lose its bezel casing, although the edge-to-edge design will be different from the S-series smartphone's usual flat screen appearance.
Meanwhile, the sources of ET News reported that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will sport an all-screen design. The screen of the next flagship phone will make use of an OLED panel instead of the usual LCD lights. OLED-powered screens are said to conserve more power compared to LCD, which is a good thing to optimize the handset's battery capacity.
The OLED screen is expected to be more efficient compared to the previous screen display of the Galaxy handset. The new OLED screen panel of the Galaxy S8 is rumored to have a Home button with fingerprint scanning enabled.
The online publication noted that the two variants of the Samsung Galaxy S8, codenamed as SM-G950 and SM-G955, will mark the company skipping the SM-G94x nomenclature. The G950 variant is expected to be the smaller, low-tier Galaxy S8 model with 5.7-inch screen display. This is similar to the Fall 2015 Samsung Galaxy handset, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. The G950 variant is also said to be quite larger than this year's Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones.
