Samsung Galaxy S8 release date, specs rumors update: Samsung to ditch flat screen variant?
Following the successful release of Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge earlier this year, people have shifted their focus to the next model of the company's flagship smartphone. According to the latest report, Samsung may ditch the flat screen design and may soon have curved display on all of their high-end smartphones including the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8.
According to a report by The Korea Herald, president of Samsung Mobile Dong-jin Koh said that the company is currently focusing on producing smartphones with Edge display technology.
"Samsung has considered that it would make the edge display as the identity of the Galaxy S smartphone lineup if the company can provide consumers differentiated user experience through software and user-friendly functions (for the curved screen)," Koh said.
The South Korean tech giant has recently announced the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which has an Edge display. The hybrid smartphone is expected to come out anytime soon. Tech observers believe that if the Edge Galaxy Note 7 does well in the market once it comes out, Samsung may finally ditch the flat screen versions in their future releases, or at least for the Galaxy S series.
Meanwhile, the company appears to be making major changes in terms of their smartphone development. Previous reports said that Samsung may soon release a foldable smartphone with cutting edge features. However, Koh told The Korea Times that the company is taking it one step at a time.
"We need more time to provide meaningful innovations and convenience considering the current status of technology" the president explained. "We need serious changes in software and user experience to build foldable smartphones and this will certainly take time."
As of the moment, Samsung is focusing on the release of the recently announced Galaxy Note 7. Apparently, the success of the hybrid device will affect the development of Samsung Galaxy S8. The flagship smartphone is expected to come out next year.
