Samsung Galaxy S8 release date, specs rumors: Features to include larger display and DeX dock; device to launch in spring 2017?
Details about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 continue to leak out, and latest reports claim that the smartphone will have a bigger "infinite" display compared to its predecessor.
Ahead of the smartphone's rumored March debut, The Guardian reports that the S8 will have two variants with screens in the 5-inch to 6-inch region. The devices will either have the same or smaller proportions compared to the previous models, but its displays will be larger. Sources reveal that the "infinity" display will largely cover the device's front part, with just a little body on the top and bottom of the screen. Since there wasn't even enough space to put the Samsung logo in front, the fingerprint scanner had to be moved to the back of the device.
The media outlet also claims that the S8 will sport a headphone jack, as opposed to a previous report that it would not. However, the new information does coincide with the rumored "all screen" design reported by Bloomberg back in December.
Under the hood, reports say that S8 will probably run with Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon 835 processor. Other notable features include a USB-C port, microSD card support, along with a new version of Samsung's Gear VR headset and Gear 360 camera. In addition, the S8 is speculated to have a "DeX" dock that enables the phone to turn into an Android-based desktop computer. This concept of boosting a smartphone into a real computer has never worked before, so tech savvy fans are looking forward to how Samsung will develop it. Similar to the ill-fated Note 7, it is believed that S8 will have an iris scanning biometric technology.
In terms of its release date, there are speculations that S8 is slated to be launched in late March and rolled out in April.
