The Samsung Gear 2 and the Samsung Gear Live appear similar in terms of design but they vary immensely in terms of their operating systems, as one comes with Tizen while the other runs on Android Wear.

Design

The Gear 2 comes with a rectangular body made from stainless steel and in this aspect it is pretty much like the Gear Live which has a similar body. The Samsung Gear 2 comes with more color options, namely black, rose gold and orange. The Gear Live comes with either black or red body color. In terms of straps, both the Gear 2 and the Gear Live come with plastic straps that can be swapped with any standard 22mm strap. Comparing their size and weight, the Gear 2 is slightly heavier and bigger than its competitor. As for dust and water resistance rating, both smartwatches are IP67 certified and can be immersed in up to one meter of water for 30 minutes with damage. If you want to make calls, the Gear 2 has that ability while the Gear Live doesn't. The Gear 2 also has a camera which is not present in Gear Live.

Display

The two smartwatches both have 1.63-inch super AMOLED screens with a resolution of 320x320 pixels and a density of 278 pixels per inch.

Specs

In the Gear Live is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz along with 512MB of RAM and 4GB internal storage. AS for the Gear 2, it comes with a dual core processor clocked at 1.0 GHz, 512MB of RAM and 4GB internal storage. Coming to their operating systems, the Tizen operating system restricts the Gear 2 and only allows it to pair with phones in Samsung's Galaxy range. The Gear Live can be paired with any phone running Android 4.3 or later.

The Gear 2 costs $299 on Amazon, while the Gear Live costs $199.
