San Antonio Spurs trade rumors: Young big man linked to team
The San Antonio Spurs are still hoping to remain relevant in the Western Conference even after Tim Duncan's retirement and the rumor mill constantly links the team with stars from different teams.
And this time, it has been reported that the Spurs are linked to a possible move for the Philadelphia 76ers' Jahlil Okafor.
Obviously, the absence of Duncan gives the Spurs a hole in the forward and center positions.
They have moved to secure Pau Gasol from the Chicago Bulls, but this is seen as a short-term fix as the Spaniard is also on his last legs as a professional.
With that in mind, the Spurs are said to be looking elsewhere for young talent in the center position.
To fill that need, the Spurs have options with the Sixers as the Eastern Conference team is said to be shopping Okafor or Nerlens Noel.
The Sixers have a lot of young big men in the team and the jam has resulted in a slowdown in their development.
That being said, Okafor makes a lot of sense for the Spurs as he is a great post player, and the Spurs' coaching staff are known to develop these types of players.
Sports Illustrated also reported on the possible trade and it makes sense for both parties as history dictates that the Spurs have gotten the most out of their big men.
Okafor has delivered in his first season in the league; averaging 17.5 points per game while grabbing seven rebounds a night.
At 20 years old, Okafor still has a lot of room to grow, and he has shown a winning mentality as he has already won in every stage he has been so far.
The Spurs should try and make a move to send the Sixers some veteran pieces to get a young and hungry player in Okafor.
It will greatly help them keep with the West this season and ensures them a marquee player in the coming years.
