San Antonio Spurs trade rumors: Spurs' stars want Towns in squad
The San Antonio Spurs is still one of the strongest teams in the league and is one of the few realistic championship contenders. Throughout the years, the Spurs have stayed afloat thanks to great chemistry and excellent players who continue to lift the standards of basketball.
However, Gospel Herald claims that the Spurs are still looking for another big asset to the team and the Minnesota Timberwolves' star Karl-Anthony Towns may be that person.
While this may only be a rumor, this could be a real possibility down the line given that the Spurs are expected to make some moves after the 2016-17 season to stay ahead of the game.
During the summer, they lost Tim Duncan as he retired from professional basketball. However, not everyone was worried because the Spurs still had a great core of veterans.
Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili may be on their last leg as stars in the team but they can still contribute and play well with the younger stars.
Kahwi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge are the younger leaders of the team now and many are placing the Spurs' future on their shoulders.
Spurs brass have also helped out as they added Pau Gasol to the lineup. Gasol provides more height and experience to help the team maintain an elite level of play.
Ginobili and Parker may not be around and the Spurs might need to do some adjustments to land a big star, and Towns may be that player. The Spurs have always had success with twin towers and Towns will likely be great alongside Leonard and Aldridge.
During his rookie year, Towns was spectacular as he played all 82 games while averaging 18.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest.
If he was given the chance to develop under the Spurs' system, he would be an even more dangerous player and it would definitely secure San Antonio's future as one of the best teams in the league.
