'Santa Clarita Diet' release date, latest news: Netflix releases bizarre new promos for Drew Barrymore's comedy show
Two new promotional teaser videos were recently released for Netflix's new and upcoming original comedy series titled "Santa Clarita Diet."
The promo teasers were launched by Netflix during the night of the Golden Globe Awards, where Drew Barrymore, one of the series' lead stars, was one of the presenters.
Aside from Barrymore, the Netflix comedy series also stars Timothy Olyphant and Liv Hewson. According to the show's synopsis, Joel (Olyphant) and Sheila (Barrymore) are husband and wife realtors leading vaguely dissatisfied lives in the Los Angeles suburb of Santa Clarita with their teenage daughter Abby (Hewson). However, a dramatic change in Sheila will lead all their lives down a road of death and destruction, in a "good" way.
As reported by Coming Soon, the "dramatic change" Sheila will go through at the start of the series is death. As the couple balances their time between selling houses and tending to their teenaged daughter, the couple must also struggle with controlling Sheila's uninhibited and unconscious urges as well as her undead hunger with raw meat (possibly of the human kind).
"After the first day, I knew this wasn't like any other diet," Barrymore says in one of the teasers released to promote the Netflix comedy series. "I satisfy all my cravings and eat whoever I want, and I only eat the foods that deserve it," she added.
Like the first teaser, the second teaser also bears some resemblance to an advertisement for a new and trendy weight loss diet, with Olyphant hyping up the effective cannibalistic diet of his wife.
"So my wife's been on this new diet," he explains in the second promo video. "She's really happy. So it's all great! Well, maybe not all great. You know, there's some stuff going on that's kind of intense. Like, the other day we were at the park, and she got hungry. And there's this jerk throwing rocks at the ducks...but no one saw us and the guy was being a d— to the ducks," the actor went on to say.
"Santa Clarita Diet" is scheduled to be released globally on Netflix on Feb. 3.
