'Scalebound' cancellation news: Xbox Head Phil Spencer spoke about cancellation issues
Microsoft confirmed that the Xbox One title "Scalebound" is canceled. The company eased the fans disappointment by announcing the lineup of titles that will come out this year.
"After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for 'Scalebound.' We're working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including 'Halo Wars 2,' 'Crackdown 3,' 'State of Decay 2,' 'Sea of Thieves' and other great experiences," said Microsoft, according to Kotaku.
Xbox head Phil Spencer took it to Twitter to comment about the cancellation. He wrote, "[It was a] Difficult decision, we believe result is better 4 Xbox gamers, still disappointing. I'm confident in [20]17 lineup that's our focus."
It was back in 2014 when Microsoft announced "Scalebound" at that year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) event. Since then, the game has been anticipated as it is believed to be a flagship title that is solely available for Xbox One. The role-playing game (RPG) game focuses on taking down opponents with a dragon as a companion.
The canceled title has a promising gameplay, especially since its designer is Hideki Kamiya, who also is the man behind "Viewtiful Joe" and "Devil May Cry." Furthermore, Platinum Games is responsible for the title's development.
The hype about "Scalebound" got intensified when it was one of the top anticipated tiles in Xbox One for 2017. However, much to the dismay of the enthusiasts, no news have been heard about the progress of the game's development. Microsoft initially confirmed that the title will be released during the holiday season of 2016, but was delayed to 2017. Now, the company announced that the title is canceled.
Eurogamer reported that the reason behind the cancellation is the separation of Platinum Games and Microsoft at the latter part of 2016. There is still a spark of hope that the development progress of the game would be revived elsewhere, but it is discontinued as of this time.
