'Scandal' Season 4 Spoilers: Characters Inspire New Spin Off
Just because fans might be seeing "Scandal" ending soon does not mean all of its characters have to go away with it, too.
Admitting that the political thriller is not the kind of show that is written to last 10 seasons, creator Shonda Rhimes revealed she is already conceiving ideas about a new series about B613.
On the hit ABC series, Emmy-winner Joe Morton portrays the recurring role of Rowan Pope, who is the head of the black-ops organization constantly bringing headaches to his daughter, Olivia.
Despite attempts to catch Rowan and shut down the organization in the mid-season finale of Season 4, the Gladiators and their band of reformed B613 baddies continue to come up empty.
"I have my own obsessions with B613 that are probably unhealthy. I have like three versions of a B613 spinoff in my head that I obsess about constantly," Rhimes said, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
But the showrunner's dream to develop a B613 spinoff may have to stay that way for a while since Rhimes is currently juggling three ongoing shows including "Grey's Anatomy," "How to Get Away With Murder" and "Scandal."
"I have some jobs, as you may notice, and not a lot of time to do some new jobs. The last time I had three shows [Grey's, Scandal and Private Practice] I created on the air at the same time, I promised myself I'd never do that again — so right now, I'm good," she admitted.
"Grey's Anatomy," a medical drama, has been running for 11 years already. And while Rhimes wanted the same for the Kerry Washington starrer, she admitted longevity is not a thing for "Scandal."
"What I love is how supportive ABC is and how great Paul Lee is. Paul says at TCA that he wants Grey's to run forever and he'd love Scandal to run forever," she said.
"But we're telling a story and it's a very particular story and I don't think you could go, 'Now this other person is Olivia Pope.' It's not that kind of story; I think there's an end to it that is important for us to get to," she said.
Lee is the president of ABC Entertainment Group president.
