Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) will have a lot on her plate when "Scandal" returns to ABC for season 6, but she will still allot more time and energy to dealing with Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry) after the events of the election.

At the end of season 5, viewers of the show discovered that Cyrus plotted to become the running mate of Frankie Vargas (Ricardo Chavira) in the vice-presidential position for the U.S. presidential election. This means that Olivia must do everything to make sure that Mellie (Bellamy Young) and Jake (Scott Foley) win against her former friend.

In an interview with Bustle during the recent Television Critics Association press tour, Washington revealed that her character will do whatever it takes to help Mellie and Jake win no matter who they have to face. "She's a crisis handler. She's a fixer. Whatever the situation is, she'll figure out a way to do what's best for her client in the moment," the actress stated.

Washington also claimed that Olivia could manage to help her candidates win, even if she was shocked to learn that Cyrus planned to run against her clients in the election.

Meanwhile, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey explained how they managed to make a decision regarding the delay of the premiere release of "Scandal" season 6 this week, together with the rest of the network's #TGIT lineup composed of other Shondaland series.

"Scandal" season 6 was supposed to open on Thursday, Jan. 19, together with the midseason return of "Grey's Anatomy" season 13 and "How to Get Away with Murder" season 3. But ABC decided to delay it until Jan. 26 to give way to the 20/20 episode "America's First Family: The Trumps Go to Washington" as the network's pre-inauguration special.

"It was a very hard call. Believe me," Dungey told TVLine. "Nobody else has been waiting for it bigger than me," he added.

Dungey also mentioned that they initially wanted to cut the two-hour pre-inauguration special in half to accommodate the return of two #TGIT series. "But then in conversations, we felt like it was better to move all of #TGIT to the following week, and have it come out at once," the network executive stated.
