'Scandal' season 6 spoilers, plot news: show taps Jeff Perry's daughter to play a mysterious recurring role
With some of the shows from the Shonda Rhimes block at ABC already hitting its mandatory winter hiatus, one show from the pool in "Scandal" is just gearing up to debut its sixth season. In light of this, cast additions are being done including show mainstay Jeff Perry's daughter, Zoe Perry.
As it turns out, the actress will be boarding the political-thriller series in a yet-to-be-disclosed recurring role. Obviously, this is the norm for a plot twist-ridden show like "Scandal," but it is particularly interesting given that Zoe's dad's character, Cyrus, is also treading an exciting arc. When season 5 ended earlier this year, the sometimes-friend, sometimes-enemy of Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is hard at work to nab the vice presidential post in the ongoing elections. And by the time that the show comes back on the air, results will be finally known and the audience will see whether his conniving ways eventually paid off.
Cyrus, who has teamed up with Frankie (Ricardo Chavira), is going up against Jake (Scott Foley) for the VP slot, with Mellie (Bellamy Young) pining for the Oval office. In retrospect, many find it a bit odd that the former White House Chief of Staff is on the other side especially when he has a long history with the Pope-run ticket, albeit it being quite convoluted. But his hunger for power has already overtaken him making him a difficult adversary and a scary politician.
"I think that sends a chill through every spine in D.C. when that gets announced because Cyrus is such a monster and has the dirt on everyone and everyone knows that he's capable of anything. I think that is a deep, deep terror for everyone," Young previously told Variety about the prospect of Cyrus holding such a high political position. Mellie doesn't know when we leave the finale, but it will shatter her. She's a little hubris about beating Vargas, but paired with Cyrus, all bets are off. It will really be bloodbath if we come back to an election in Season 6."
If the recently released poster for the thriller's sixth outing is any indication, fans can expect a shift in power. But at this point, the national elections in the Shondaland show is very much anybody's game.
"Scandal" season 6 premieres on Jan. 19, Thursday on ABC.
