'Scorpion' season 3 spoilers: Paige to ignore Walter at the start of the year

Paige (Katharine McPhee) and Walter's (Elyes Gabel) new year will begin with a sad note when "Scorpio" season 3 returns on CBS.

Before the series took a holiday break, Walter and Paige's boyfriend Tim had a heated discussion because of her. This led Tim to take on the security training job offer that will require him to relocate to Amman, Jordan. Because of this, Paige will blame Walter for keeping them apart.

"Paige is furious at first," executive producer Nick Wootton said in an interview with TVLine. "Walter, meanwhile, feels terrible about the whole Tim thing and tries to be sweet and kind to Paige with the purest of intentions."

Because of her anger toward Walter, Paige will surprisingly listen to the advice from an unlikely source â€” her estranged mother and con-artist Veronica (Lea Thompson).

According to Wootton, Paige will eventually realize that she needs to follow her mother's advice if Walter will show some feelings for her. "And when [Walter] is trying to be kind to her without any ulterior motives, interesting developments arise," the executive producer stated.

This means that those who are hoping to see Walter and Paige jump into a romantic relationship will be happy to find out that it might happen when the series returns for the second half of season 3.

Meanwhile, The Futon Critic posted the synopsis for the midseason premiere of "Scorpio" season 3 titled "Ice Ca-Cabes."

According to the synopsis for the episode, the team will have to do a drastic measure in order to save Agent Cabe Gallo's (Robert Patrick) life. The full synopsis reads: "When a mission in the desert results in exploding shrapnel that seriously wounds Cabe, Team Scorpion must freeze his body in order to save his life."

The midseason premiere of "Scorpio" season 3 will air on Monday, Jan. 2.
