After showcasing the downfall of the remaining Green Meanies along with the swamp monster costume's legacy, Tuesday's "Scream Queens" season finale quickly stirred the calming waters by reintroducing a rather familiar adversary.

Now that the Green Meanie costume will be put to rest, the Red Devil from the show's first season is about to hog the villain's spotlight yet again, if and when "Scream Queens" returns for a third season. But who could the Red Devil be this time, and what's his or her agenda?

Speculations point to Grace Gardner (Skyler Samuels) possibly taking on the Red Devil's mantle to seek revenge on old rival Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts), for having indirectly caused the death of her father, Wes Gardner (Oliver Hudson), much like the way she had also indirectly brought on all the traumatizing events at the Kappa Kappa Tau house that drove Grace into a mental breakdown.

Could Grace have really followed the same murderous path that her half-sister Hester Ulrich (Lea Michele) and her father took? Perhaps like in the first season, that final scene of the Red Devil terrorizing Chanel at her most vulnerable was nothing more than a bad dream.

Earlier in the season fans of the show theorized that the Green Meanie could be Grace after it hesitated and then ran off at the sight if Zayday Williams (Keke Palmer), who was Grace's closest friend in season 1. And although these theories were eventually proven wrong, Wes' revelation that Grace had been admitted into a psychiatric facility may have been more than just a passing mention. It could also have been a teaser to the possibility of Grace being next season's mysterious killer.

Due to reportedly poor ratings throughout the recently concluded season, a third run may no longer be possible. But if the network does decide to give in to the fans' clamor for more, "Scream Queens" has left enough loose ends to fill up a season 3. More than the Red Devil's return, there is also Hester and Brock Holt's (John Stamos) tandem murdering spree that could go well beyond Blood Island.

"Scream Queens" is still awaiting an official season 3 renewal from FOX.
