"Sense8" season 2 will arrive on Netflix on Friday, May 5, but fans will first be treated with a Christmas special dropping Friday, Dec. 23.

The streaming giant has released a synopsis for the Christmas special, but there is not much to take away from it in terms of specifics. The description is as follows:

"The journey continues as these eight singular hearts and minds weave in and out of each other's lives finding deeper connections, learning darker, more desperate secrets about one another and struggling to identify with more than just oneself."

The Christmas special should help fans get by the long wait. After all, "Sense8" season 2 will be released five months after this holiday-themed episode.

The synopsis for the new season teases how the Sensates are "plunged into the middle of each other's tragedies and triumphs" as they are on the run from Whispers (Terrence Mann), who continues to terrorize them.

"Forced to question their very identity, it's a matter of survival as the Sensates must find a way to live with, understand and protect one another against all odds," the synopsis further teased.

There are rumors going around that one of them will experience losing a loved one while Whispers will have a new ally known only as The Assistant.

Meanwhile, "Sense8" season 2 will also see the whole gang rally around Sun (Doona Bae), who is still behind bars, but may not be for long.

Just like for the first season, the cast and crew traveled around the world to film the episodes for "Sense8" season 2. However, there will be massive changes to expect from the show.

Toby Onwumere will now play the role of Capheus after Aml Ameen was fired in the middle of the production. Lilly Wachowski also stepped down as executive producer and director, making "Sense8" season 2 the first project to separate her and sister Lana Wachowski.
