The hunt for Jace (Dominic Sherwood) is on, and he must face the huge challenge on his own in the upcoming premiere of Freeform's supernatural drama "Shadowhunters" season 2.

Titled "This Guilty Blood," the show's much-awaited premiere will see The Institute in upheaval after Jace's unexpected departure with Valentine (Alan Van Sprang). According to the official synopsis, only a few hours have passed since Jace exited The Institute with Valentine, but all hell has already broken loose. In a desperate attempt to rescue their friend, Alec (Matthew Daddario), Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia), and Clary (Katherine McNamara) band together as they make their way out of the area. However, the group is immediately stopped in their tracks when Victor Aldertree (Nick Sagar) arrives.

Upon reaching the area, he makes it known to everyone that he means business about getting the Institute back on track. Getting the New York Shadowhunters to cooperate with The Clave, however, may be counterintuitive to Isabelle, Alec, and Clary's plan to save Jace — making the task more difficult for them. Elsewhere, Jocelyn (Maxim Roy) is finally awake, and she realizes that she has a lot to catch up on.

The synopsis clearly indicates that season 2 picks up only minutes after the first season's final episode. When viewers see Jace, he will still be on the run with Valentine. While most fans think that joining Valentine's nefarious army will be the worst thing for Jace, Sherwood teased that more challenges for his character are up ahead.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the lead actor shared hints on what comes next for his troubled character. "Things get worse for Jace before they get better," Sherwood told the publication's Spoiler Room segment. "He's struggling with new information that he's being given by Valentine and really has no support system anymore because his friends aren't with him, he can't get to them. He's really a fish out of water and in a bit of trouble at the beginning of season 2," the actor added.

The second season of "Shadowhunters" premieres on Monday, Jan. 2, at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
