'Shadowhunters' season 2 episode 2 spoilers: Jocelyn wants to kill Jace; Jace and Alec's parabatai bond to be explored

The premiere episode of "Shadowhunters" season 2 ended with Clary (Katherine McNamara) successfully locating Jace (Dominic Sherwood), but the conflicted shadowhunter remains on the run after a failed attempt on his life by presumed mother Jocelyn (Maxim Roy).

The next episode of Freeform's fantasy series titled "A Door Into the Dark" will hopefully shed more light on the reason behind Jocelyn's unexpected aggression toward the son whom she had initially believed to be dead. Does it have anything to do with the demon blood infusions Valentine (Alan Van Sprang) did on her while she was pregnant with their son? Will Jace eventually become a slave to his demon blood, just as Valentine said he would be, and is preventing this threat from happening really greater than Jocelyn's love for her son?

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actor Sherwood shared that Jace and Jocelyn's relationship dynamics will be explored, but not as thoroughly as fans who have read the book would expect.

"There were times in his life when he desperately needed a mother and she wasn't there and now she is," Sherwood said, adding, "There's definitely a part of him that's like I want to explore this relationship."

Now that "Shadowhunters" has new showrunners, some big and subtle changes may be felt going into the show's sophomore season. Sherwood described it as "more grounded in reality" with issues and dangers seeming more real than they did before.

The show will also be focusing more on relationships, and one important relationship that Sherwood hopes will be explored in the coming episodes is the parabatai bond his character shares with foster brother Alec (Matthew Daddario). He also mentioned that he had seen an advanced preview of the flashback to their parabatai ceremony, which will be shown in a future episode.

"It's really great. My girlfriend was with me at the time and she cried," Sherwood shared.

The second episode of season 2 will also feature Clary at a lost and struggling to find her place after her mom and the Institute's betrayal. Simon will also be seeking out Magnus' help in dealing with his own issues regarding Raphael and Aldertree.

The next episode of "Shadowhunters" will air on Monday, Jan. 9, at 8 p.m. EST on Freeform. Fans can also catch up on missed episodes via the Freeform app.
