Freeform network has finally announced the premiere date for season 2 of the fantasy television series "Shadowhunters." The series will be back for more adventures and action.

The series, which is based on the young-adult fantasy novel "The Mortal Instruments," will start airing new episodes on Jan. 2, 2017. It was revealed during the New York City Comic Con which was attended by the cast and crew.

Other details about the new season were also divulged and according to reports, the Shadow World will be facing great chaos due to the growing power of Valentine (Alan Van Sprang) and The Circle. A synopsis also revealed that loyalties will be tested and some of the bonds and relationships will face tension.

Reports also mentioned that fans will be seeing a different kind of Clary this season. Actress Katherine McNamara spilled to VVV magazine that her character will be carrying a new outlook now that she is more aware of her identity and her environment. She also teased that Clary will be stronger than ever and as she sets on a new mission, she will have a lot of growth especially with her brother Jace (Dominic Sherwood).

"Shadowhunters" season 2 will also be exploring more of the relationship of Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) and Alec (Matthew Daddario). The two shared their first kiss before the first season closed and now they're jumping into the getting-to-know stage. Showrunner Todd Slavkin told Entertainment Weekly that the two are very different from each other.

"They're from such two different worlds — one's a warlock, one's a shadowhunter," said Slavkin. "One is super experienced and has lived for centuries and has bedded many, many, many men and women, and here's Alec, who is a young lad who's just leaping into the world of relationships," he added.

"The Vampire Diaries'" Stefan Salvatore, who is portrayed by Paul Wesley, will also reportedly be taking part of the series. He won't be in front of the camera though. He will just be directing an episode of "Shadowhunters" in season 2.
