Shailene Woodley Movie News 2014: Oliver Stone's 'Snowden' - Another Plum Role for 'Divergent' Star
Shailene Woodley seems to be on a roll this year, and her good fortune is not showing any sign of stopping, or even slowing down.
After her sensitive portrayal of the troubled teenager Amy Juergens in the TV series "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," Woodley starred in several movies, bagging the plum role of Beatrice (Tris) Prior in the "Divergent" franchise. She also shone in "The Fault in Our Stars." Now, Woodley is being eyed to play one of the lead characters in Director Oliver Stone's film, "Snowden." That is, if negotiations don't fall through.
Stone is deservedly world-renowned for helming some of the most acclaimed movies of all time, such as "Platoon," "The People vs. Larry Flynt," and "Alexander."
With "Snowden," Stone once more takes on a controversial and gripping story -- the life of whistleblower Edward Snowden (to be portrayed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) -- and transform it into a cinematic masterpiece.
Woodley is being tapped to play the role of Snowden's girlfriend.
"Snowden" is not yet the final title of Stone's movie. It will be an adaptation based on the book of Luke Harding titled "The Snowden Files: The Inside Story Of The World's Most Wanted Man," as well as Antaoly Kucherena's novel titled "Time of the Octopus."
Kucherena happens to be the lawyer of Snowden. As such, it will be interesting to find out if deeper details regarding Snowden's motivations will be revealed in the movie.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt has all the acting abilities required to successfully portray the controversial Snowden, whose reputation alternates from being a whistleblower to a traitor, or patriot, or dissident, or even a hero.
Will the role of Woodley as Snowden's girlfriend Lindsay Mills also be as complex? Fans are hoping that that would turn out to be the case.
