'Skyrim: Special Edition' release date, news: Game is free for people who already own all DLCs
This October marks the release of Bethesda's upcoming "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" Special Edition, and it will give the five-year-old game an updated polish with 4K resolution and volumetric lighting. What's more, gamers who already own all downloadable content (DLC) packs can get their hands on the special edition for free.
Gamers who want to avail the Special Edition for free have to own DLCs "Dawnguard," "Hearthfire," and "Dragonborn." The update is also available for anyone who owns "Skyrim Legendary Edition."
Some speculate that the release of the special edition may be a way for Bethesda to get new people to join the "Skyrim" community.
Other things beefed up for the special edition include dynamic depth-of-field, screen-space reflections, new snow and water shades, and remastered art and effects. Console gamers should also be happy to know that the special edition can support Mods on consoles.
For awhile, PC gamers have been able to get an advantage by being able to modify the game to their will, but now PS4 and Xbox players can join in on the fun.
As for the specs needed to run the game, PC users will need to have at least 12 GB storage, 8GB of RAM, an Intel i5-750 processor/AMS Phenom II X4-945, a Nvidia GTX 470 1GB/AMD HD 7870 2GB, and a 64-bit Windows 7 or higher.
For console gamers, they need to have 17 GB and 20 GB storage available for the game.
A lot of fans have already been waiting for "Elders Scrolls VI" but it looks like Bethesda has no plans to release it anytime soon. As of now, they can just enjoy the remastered version of "Skyrim" to bide the time before they can get the latest installment of the "Elder Scrolls" franchise.
"Skyrim: Special Edition" comes out on Oct. 28.
