'Sons of Anarchy' prequel news: 'First 9' prequel still in the cards

First look for "Sons of Anarchy" prequel spinoff, "Mayans MC" | Twitter/Kurt Sutter

It looks like "Mayans MC" will not be the only "Sons of Anarchy" prequel that fans can expect as Kurt Sutter, the creator of the motorcycle drama, teased another series to be spawned from his beloved creation.

He said that the spinoff focused on the First 9, the founding members of the "Sons of Anarchy," is still on the table, and will focus on the John Teller's (Victor Newmark) manuscript.

"We'll find a way to shine a little light on perhaps John Teller's manuscript, if we're lucky enough to continue. And then what I would do is, not directly, but I would use that as a potential launching point to do the prequel," Sutter said during his appearance at the Honest Pretty Much podcast.

"And that to me is a one off, it's like 10 episodes — it's not a series. And whether we do that in between seasons on Mayans I'm not sure, but that would sort of happen tangentially to that," he went on to say.

Sutter also said that this "Sons of Anarchy" prequel will be set before Jax (Charlie Hunnam) was born and when John and Gemma (Katey Sagal) were coming back to America from Vietnam.

"Ideally to do each episode have a new member join," he went on to say, showing that he already has a clear idea of the "Sons of Anarchy" prequel.

Should the spinoff find its way to the small screen, fans will finally get to witness how the Sons of Anarchy came to life and the kind of people they were before the group was formed.

With Sutter's idea of the "First 9" prequel already in place, fans can expect to see it in the flesh in the future. The question now will be when.

As for "Mayans MC," the "Sons of Anarchy" prequel will begin filming in March. Sutter will direct the pilot although there is no specific air date for it yet except for a fall 2017 premiere.
