'Sons of Anarchy' spinoff news: creator Kurt Sutter talks about another series focusing on John Teller
The "Sons of Anarchy" lore continues to flourish even after the wrap-up of the main series from the franchise. With "Mayans MC" already nabbing an official order from FX, creator Kurt Sutter reveals that a developing spinoff is already in their production can.
As it turns out, the TV exec is already looking to explore a sequel to Jax Teller's (Charlie Hunnam) story, this time panning the spotlight to his father, John Teller (voiced by Nicholas Guest) and his journey to founding the SAMCRO (Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original). Alongside the older biker is the group called The First 9 who helped him establish the renowned gang.
"We'll find a way to shine a little light on perhaps John Teller's manuscript, if we're lucky enough to continue. And then what I would do is, not directly, but I would use that as a potential launching point to do the prequel," Sutter said laying the groundwork to how he thinks they will be able to meander in his tipped premise during a guesting stint with Tom Arnold's podcast, "100% Pretty Much." "And that to me is a one off, it's like 10 episodes -it's not a series. And whether we do that in between seasons on Mayans I'm not sure, but that would sort of happen tangentially to that," he continued.
At this rate, Sutter sounds very enthusiastic about the prospect of enriching the biking lore with the "Mayans MC" shedding a light on American-Latinos in the community. But by reverting to Jax's direct lineage, it is possible that a lot of yet to be answered questions can be answered improving and honing "Sons of Anarchy's" narrative.
"It would begin in Vietnam with John Teller and Piney Winston and it would be about them coming back to America. Ideally to do each episode have a new member join," Sutter excitedly shared. "Maybe at that point Gemma's there but it's before Jax is born."
Since the character has never really been strongly determined in terms of aesthetics in "Sons of Anarchy" and instead was interjected more via a voice over, it will be an interesting round of casting for the folks behind the project.
