Sony Xperia Z3 vs Sony Xperia Z4 Comparison: Similar Devices with Different Specs
In comparing last year's Sony Xperia Z3 to this year's Xperia Z4, it is apparent that the company did not invest much in adding new features to its latest flagship model and only improved its hardware. Here is how the two siblings compare.
Design
The Xperia Z3's design has earned praise from many reviewers who noted its sturdy build even though it has glass on its back panel wrapped around a metal frame with a matte finish. The Xperia Z3 features a nylon coating on its corners to protect the glass and metal construction.
The Xperia Z4 follows much of the same design and even comes in the same color choices: white, black, green, and copper. Moreover, just like its predecessor, the Xperia Z4 comes with an IP68 dust and waterproof rating, which means it can safely be submerged in up to one meter of water for 30 minutes.
Display
The displays on the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z4 are identical as Sony did not bump up the resolution on the Z4 and even opted for the same size. This means both devices have a IPS LCD screen measuring 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 424 pixels per inch. Each Triluminos display is powered by the X-Reality Engine and covered with shatter-proof glass.
Specs
When it comes to hardware, the Xperia Z4 surges ahead since it comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, along with an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores and four Cortex-A57 cores and an Adreno 430 GPU. The Xperia Z3 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset along with a Krait 400 CPU with four cores clocked at 2.5 GHz and an Adreno 330 GPU.
Memory
Both devices have a memory slot that allows for the addition of up to 128 GB of external storage. They also have 3 GB RAM each.
Price
The Xperia Z3 now costs $499 without a two-year contract while the Xperia Z4 could be launched in the U.S. before the end of this month and priced at $890 without a two-year contract.
