'Space Jam 2' news 2016: Is Michael Jordan making an appearance?
There are reports that Warner Brothers' successful 1996 film "Space Jam" is having a sequel due to be released in the near future. While the reports suggest that "Space Jam 2" is going to feature a whole new set of actual and voice actors, including a new NBA basketball superstar, there are rumors suggesting that the star of the original movie, Michael Jordan, will be making a short but meaningful appearance in the sequel.
The Bitbag raised the idea of Jordan appearing in the forthcoming sequel 20 years after the first "Space Jam" movie was released. While there are limited trusted sources that would spill details regarding the anticipated "Space Jam" sequel, more so the cameo appearance of Jordan in the movie, some proofs were given that raises the possibility of him being included in the sequel.
Firstly, Jordan has a lot of time to do a movie project as of the moment, and Warner Brothers could easily get him to sign up for the sequel. The last time Jordan played in the NBA was in 2003, and his retired life as a basketball player would give him more time to shoot a few scenes for "Space Jam 2," especially if he is going to take on a cameo role. Lastly, his appeal to the fans that helped the 1996 film to gross $230.4 million worldwide may boost the sequel even further.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, "Space Jam 2" is currently being planned as "Fast and Furious 6" director Justin Lin is in talks to direct the sequel. He is also expected to do more than directing as he is also reported to co-produce the movie via his Perfect Storm Entertainment label. He will be mostly involved in the creative development of the upcoming project. However, if the report verified, he cannot focus on "Space Jam 2" right away as he is still working on the post-production of "Star Trek Beyond," which will be released Summer 2016. Also joining him in the sequel is the Bad Words screenwriter, Andrew Doge, who will be writing the script.
There are reports that Lebron James will be the featured basketball star of "Space Jam 2," following the contract signing with Warner Brothers back in August 2015. James' camp initially denied his involvement in the sequel, although his deal with the Warner company suggests that he may be up for the "Space Jam" sequel, Yibada reported. Meanwhile, CBS Sports included a list of NBA superstars that they believe should be joining James in the potential sequel. The list includes Blake Griffin, Kyrie Irving and DeMarcus Cousins.
