'Spider-Man: Homecoming' news, release date: 'Doctor Strange' composer Michael Giacchino to score film
"Doctor Strange" composer Michael Giacchino is set to score another Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film.
Giacchino recently confirmed that he will be working on the score for the upcoming "Spider-Man: Homecoming," next summer's highly anticipated reimagining of the iconic webslinger. The news of Giacchino's involvement in "Homecoming" first broke last week, when a Reddit user wrote that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had announced such during a screening for the just-released "Doctor Strange."
On Sunday, Nov. 6, Giacchino confirmed the report via a Twitter photo of the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" poster, which he captioned "The rumors are true..."
The composer's latest work for a Marvel Studios film was heard in "Doctor Strange," in which Benedict Cumberbatch made his big-screen debut as the Sorcerer Supreme. Prior to his MCU work, Giacchino scored the films "Tomorrowland" (2015), "Jurassic World" (2015), "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" (2014), "Star Trek Into Darkness" (2013) and "Star Trek" (2009).
Apart from composing the music for "Spider-Man: Homecoming," Giacchino will be busy working on the films "War for the Planet of the Apes" (2017), "The Book of Henry" (2017) and "The Incredibles 2" (2018).
After "Doctor Strange," his music will next be heard in the upcoming "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," which debuts in December. Recently, Giacchino revealed that he is most excited for "Star Wars" fans to hear the theme for the "Rogue One" protagonist Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones).
"I love the main character," he said of the film. "I love Jyn and what they have done with her," he added.
"It is a little stressful but it is a lot of fun," he said about scoring "Rogue One."
Giacchino is the first composer apart from the iconic John Williams to score a live-action "Star Wars" film.
"Spider-Man: Homecoming" was directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey, Jr., Zendaya, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau and Donald Glover.
The film hits theaters on June 7, 2017.
