'Spider-Man: Homecoming' release date, news and updates: 'Hamilton' star Lin-Manuel Miranda wants to play villain Carnage
Though fans are sure that the upcoming "Spider-Man" solo movie will be featuring classic villains like Shocker and the Vulture, "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has expressed his desire to play another classic Spider-Man villain, Carnage.
According to the Meet the Movie Press vodcast, Miranda wants to play Carnage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Miranda is reportedly a huge fan of the franchise, and he has good connections with Disney, who happens to own Marvel as well.
In the comics, the original Carnage was Cletus Kasady, a serial killer who shared a cell with Eddie Brock aka Venom. When the symbiote came to the prison to bust Brock out, it left an offspring which bonded itself to Kasady and turned him into Carnage.
Carnage is actually a very powerful villain in the Spider-Man rogues gallery, and his abilities are too tough even for Peter Parker. The only way Spider-Man was able to defeat Carnage was by forming a truce with archenemy Venom to bring Kasady down together.
The villain has very deep roots in the comics. Aside from the fact that he is another symbiote-based villain, Carnage was even responsible for the death of Spidey's love interest Gwen Stacy in the Ultimate Marvel Universe.
As of now, there is no official announcement of Carnage appearing in any of the upcoming "Spider-Man" movies, but some guess that when Spider-Man (Tom Holland) joins the Avengers in "Infinity War," he could very much run into the alien symbiote that would eventually turn into Venom if the team decides to go to space to battle Thanos.
Rumors have even popped up before that comedian Jim Carrey was up to play Cletus Casady.
So far no mention of Venom or Carnage have been mentioned for the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" movie, but Marvel and Sony may just find a way to surprise fans when the film comes out on July 7, 2017.
