Spider-Man: Homecoming' sequel news, release date: Tom Holland confirms sequel is in discussion

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" isn't coming out until next July but it looks like Marvel and Sony are already planning a sequel for the upcoming film.

"Homecoming" marks the first time that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are working together to reboot the iconic teenaged superhero. It now appears that they are confident that the film, which stars Tom Holland as the new Peter Parker/Spider-Man, will be a success.

Holland confirmed that a sequel to "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is already being discussed in a recent interview with Women's Wear Daily at the New York Film Festival. "We're talking about the second one and who the villain is going to be and where we're going," he said.

Filming for "Spider-Man: Homecoming" officially wrapped up this summer, capping several months of production. It was filmed mostly in Atlanta but reportedly wrapped up in New York City.

Holland made his big0screen debut as Spider-Man in the blockbuster hit "Captain America: Civil War" earlier this year. The film, which also introduced T'Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), saw Spider-Man being recruited by Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) into his side.

During the New York Film Festival, Holland dropped another bomb about Spider-Man, hinting that the teenaged vigilante could team up again with the Avengers in the upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War," which is set to premiere in 2018.

"It's all up in the air," Holland told Variety. "I believe some sort of deal is in the mix, but I'm unclear as to what that deal is," he added.

"Infinity War," which will bring together the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and various other characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is about to enter production in Atlanta. While fans expect Spider-Man to join the ensemble, there may once again be some complicated negotiations between Marvel and Sony before this can occur.

Nonetheless, it appears that Holland is committed to playing the webslinger in his upcoming big-screen outings. In his interview with Variety, the actor spoke about his experience filming "Homecoming," saying, "I did as many [of the stunts] as I could."

He also expressed his gratitude for the film's stunt doubles, adding, "Whenever there was a stunt that I didn't necessarily feel comfortable about, they would step in and show me how to do it, and coach me through the process."

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" opens in theaters on July 7, 2017.
